KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 25-26 (Local Time) – China and United States held an economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Guided by the important common understandings reached in this year’s phone conversations between the two heads of state, the two sides engaged in a constructive discussions on key economic and trade issues of mutual interest. These included the U.S. Section 301 investigation into China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors, the extension of tariff suspensions with the same duration, fentanyl-related tariffs and law enforcement cooperation, agricultural trade, and export controls.
China’s International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, Li Chenggang, stated that after more than a day of intensive discussions, the two sides constructively explored solutions to properly address each other’s concerns and reached preliminary consensus. The next step will involve each side undertaking their respective internal reporting and approval procedures.
