MPP Babikian Announces Funding to Scarborough-Agincourt Schools
September 30, 2019: Scarborough-Agincourt, MPP Aris Babikian announced alongside Lee Soda, Executive Director of Agincourt Community Services Association, community members, students, parents, and teachers that the Government of Ontario will allocate $369,000 to Agincourt Community Services Association in order to allow them to host Ontario’s After School Program in Scarborough-Agincourt.
MPP Babikian during the announcement said, “We’re investing in after school programs to keep our kids healthy, engaged and ready to learn so they can succeed in life”. The funding will benefit six locations in Scarborough-Agincourt and allow students to access this important program at their schools.
Ontario’s After School Program gives more than 21,000 children and youth the opportunity to participate in fun, safe and supervised activities at over 400 locations in priority neighbourhoods across the province.
Our kids and youth will be able to participate in activities that focus on:
- physical activity, recreation, and sport – to encourage active lifestyles
- healthy eating and nutrition education – to help combat childhood obesity
- Personal health and wellness education – to promote self-esteem.
Participating in after school programs help kids improve their grades and improve their self-esteem. Ontario’s After School Programs are run by non-profit organizations that receive funding from the ministry and determine the specifics of how each program is run. The ministry provides guidelines to these organizations that then make their own decisions about running the program, identifying participants and hiring staff.
This program helps to ensure that students in places like Scarborough-Agincourt participate in inclusive and healthy activities that help them get ahead in school and later as adults.
