Senator Victor Oh and Canada Zhejiang Council of Commerce’s Anti Pandemic Action——donated more than 10,000 masks, isolation gowns, and eye protectors to frontline health care workers at Don Mills Family Health Team

On July 2, Canada Senator Victor Oh with the vice president of the Canada Zhejiang Council of
Commerce and the president of the Council’s Tourism Network, Mr. Qingsheng Chen, on behalf of the Canada Zhejiang Council of Commerce donated 10,000 masks, 150 sets of isolation gowns and 15 pairs of protective glasses as urgently needed protective materials to the frontline health care workers at Don Mills Family Health Team.The Board Chair of Don Mills Family Health Team, Mr. Jonathan Mousley; Legal Director, retired Ontario judger, and commentator, Professor Marvin Zuker, Executive Director Yan Gao and some frontline staff participated in the donation ceremony and expressed their heartfelt thanks to the senator and communities for their support.

Senator Victor Oh thanked Canada Zhejiang Council of Commerce for donating 10,000 medical masks, isolation gowns and protective glasses during the outbreak.

Senator Victor Oh states that Don Mills Family Health Team is located in the center of Toronto. The community is the first planned community in North America and was designed as a model community in the 1950s and 1960s. This area was developed rapidly during the baby boomer years, and today it has become one of the largest communities of seniors in Canada. At the same time, due to its convenient location, welcoming environment and open community culture, the immigrant population in the community continues to grow to more than half of all resident.

Don Mills Family Health Team is a community health center funded by the Ontario Department of Health, providing services to communities in Toronto covering a population of 300,000. In the past ten years, it has provided basic medical services to more than 16,000 patients in the Greater Toronto Area, and has more than 32,400 patient visits of consultations annually. At the same time, it is also a designated service agency for international students (UHIP) from all countries to support their work and study lives in Canada.In the case of lack of resources, these epidemic protection materials will provide medical staff a means to proceed with normal work, and to prepare for the second wave of pandemic. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the Chinese community has actively organized and campaigned donation activities, from the donation of funds to donation of prevention materials, and has set a role model in assisting the prevention of pandemic spread.

Senator Victor Oh also encouraged everyone to continue to pay attention and support the government’s measures, including washing hands frequently, maintaining social distance, and going out with a mask and gloves. They take risks to work everyday to provide valuable medical services for emergencies, pregnant women, children, cancer chemotherapy patients, patients with minor dermatologic issues, trauma patients, and international students. The various types of medical staff in the center include family doctors, obstetricians, paediatricians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychotherapists, dietitians, health education specialists, social workers, and system navigation specialists. In addition to daily medical care, they also provide psychological support to vulnerable groups in various communities, deliver food, and raise funds for vaccine research. At the same time, we thank everyone for their joint efforts to improve population health.
