Beginning Monday, June 14, 2021 individuals who live, work or attend school in York Region and who received their first dose on or before May 9, 2021 are now eligible to reschedule an earlier second dose appointment
Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is continuing to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to eligible residents as quickly as possible.
Beginning Monday, June 14, 2021 eligible individuals who live, work or attend school in York Region who received their first dose on or before May 9, 2021 and who already have a second dose appointment booked now have the option to re-book an earlier appointment. New appointments can be booked online or by phone by visiting york.ca/COVID19Vaccine
Eligible residents who received their first dose on or before May 9, 2021 who do not yet have a second dose appointment can also book an online appointment.
Previously booked second dose appointments will be honoured and will not be cancelled unless a new and earlier appointment is confirmed.
Eligible residents who are not able or comfortable booking an online appointment are encouraged to seek out a support person (caregiver, family member or friend) who can assist in booking this appointment on their behalf. Telephone support is also available and is listed under the applicable clinic.
Second doses will continue to be administered to other eligible individuals as directed by the province, including eligible York Region residents 70 years of age and older (born in 1951 and earlier).
Eligibility expansion aligns with the recent provincial announcement to further expanding eligibility for accelerated second doses in Delta hot spots to ensure a strong level of protection against COVID-19 and variants.
Effective June 4, 2021, anyone who has received an AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for their first dose can choose to receive a second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine or an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. This aligns with recent recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).
Individuals who received a first dose of an AstraZeneca vaccine should receive a second dose (either AstraZeneca or mRNA) 12 weeks after the first dose. Both second dose options available to individuals who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine are safe and provide strong protection against COVID-19 and will count as a completed series.
While the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is very effective at preventing COVID-19 infection, serious illness, hospitalization and death, a second dose is still required to provide optimal and longer-lasting protection.
It remains critically important for all those who have not received a first dose to get one.
Individuals who are 12 years of age and older who live, work or go to school in York Region who have not yet received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to do so.
York Region Public Health is working with our local health care partners to provide COVID-19 vaccines at various locations across York Region. Clinic dates and times vary for each location. Please visit york.ca/COVID19Vaccine for specific clinic details.
Appointment availability is currently limited. New appointments will be released as they become available; we encourage individuals to check back regularly.
Appointments are required; walk-in appointments are not available. Please do not visit a vaccination clinic without an appointment, unless otherwise specified.
A colour-coded system has been applied to the york.ca/COVID19Vaccine page to help residents easily identify which clinics may have available appointments:
- Red: Appointments Fully Booked
- Orange: Limited Availability
- Green: Now Booking
Given the expected high volume of web activity and telephone support, wait times may be longer than usual and service disruptions on york.ca may occur. Please continue to be patient.
York Region will continue to publicly communicate new online booking opportunities through multiple communication channels, including york.ca, social media and our media and community partners.
To ensure all appointments are available to those who are eligible, we encourage residents to book only one appointment per person and cancel any appointments they do not intend to use.
