Attuning the Heart Through Discipline – Rangbala Thangka Art Exhibition

The Opening Ceremony of the “Attuning the Heart Through Discipline – Rangbala Thangka Art Exhibition” will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Shancai Hall, Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden in Canada.

This exhibition, themed “Attuning the Heart Through Discipline”, signifies aligning oneself with the rhythms of nature and the inner mind, awakening to the true essence of art. More than fifty contemporary Thangka artworks from Rangtang County of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, China, will be presented.

“Rangtang,” transliterated from Tibetan as “Rangbala Tang,” means “the sacred land where Yellow Jambhala resides.” Located on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, bordering Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, and the Giant Panda sanctuaries, Rangtang has preserved a rich Tibetan Buddhist culture for nearly a thousand years and nurtured generations of Thangka artists.

Thangka, as a distinctive art form of Tibetan Buddhism, uses natural mineral pigments to depict Buddhist cosmology and spiritual beliefs. Its mysterious, solemn, and intricate style makes it not only a religious treasure but also a remarkable testimony to human spiritual civilization.

On this occasion, the Buddhist Association of Canada has specially invited the Rangbala Intangible Cultural Heritage Association to bring these works across the ocean, offering Canadian audiences a cultural feast that embodies the harmony of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism. The exhibition is also dedicated to the memory of the late Venerable Sing Hung — for though all phenomena are empty, Buddha-nature is never void; though causes and conditions are beyond comprehension, from non-abiding the awakened mind arises.
