An Emergency Response Launched to the Abduction of a Chinese Student

The Chinese consulate general in Toronto has launched an emergency response to the abduction of a Chinese student

A Chinese student was kidnapped in Markham, Ontario, at around 6 PM on March 23, according to the Canadian police. The york police department is investigating the case and looking for the victim.

The consulate general of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto attached great importance to the case and immediately launched the consular protection emergency mechanism. The consulate general contacted the york police immediately to learn about the case and asked the police to spare no efforts to find and rescue the victims safely and take concrete measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens within the jurisdiction. The consulate-general also contacted the victim’s family immediately and informed them of the situation.

In the next step, the consulate general will continue to closely follow the progress of the case, maintain close communication with the police, schools and families and other relevant parties, provide all necessary assistance within the scope of its duties, and actively provide consular protection and assistance to Chinese citizens involved.
