On the evening of November 8, 2022, our delegation was warmly greeted to a Welcome Dinner hosted by H.R. Rin Virak, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Planning. Joining H.E. Rin Virak were H.E Phan Oun, Ministry of commerce, H.E Va Sophal, Ministry of planning, H.E Lim Phanna, Ministry of planning, and Oknha Ung Ly Heng (Real Estate Developer). The evening allowed our delegation a chance to network with various government officials while learning more about various opportunities in Cambodia.

ASEAN Business & Investment Summit 2022 – Nov 9 to Nov 10, 2022

Our delegation was cordially invited to attend the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit 2022, organized by the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and ASEAN Business Advisory Council. This event is a two-day summit comprised of networking opportunities among business leaders; a Welcome Gala Dinner; the ASEAN Business Awards followed by panel discussions on this year’s theme, ‘Addressing Challenges Together’, the impact Covid and war in Ukraine have had on people and economies. The summit was a huge success as it welcomed over 1000 participants and business leaders and company executives from ASEAN and its Dialogue partners.

Fruitful discussion took place among Mr. Bunleng Men, the Trade Commissioner from the Office of the Embassy of Canada, Mr. Lenny Wong, President of the Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto, and our delegation on various support levels the Canadian government can provide. To enhance profiles of Canada & Cambodia business environment, the Trade Commissioner has emphasized support for the Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto including market assessment and incentive programs for businesses wanting to establish a footprint in Cambodia.

Meeting with Cambodia Chamber of Commerce – Nov 12, 2022

Meeting began at 10:00 am and was chaired by Neak Okhna Mr. Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. Neak Okhna Kith Meng opened the meeting with a welcome remark followed by H.E. Mr. Rin Virak, Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Planning, Chair of the organizing working group of Cambodia People’s Party (CPP) Youth in Canada and Mr. Lenny Wong, President of the Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto.

The meeting was extremely productive resulting in forming a point of contact between both sides. It also resulted in centralized communication with updates on economic policy and regulations, initiate collaboration and working groups to help identify business opportunities between the two countries and help resolve business related matters for Canadian investors.

The Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto will act as a bridge between Cambodian and Canadian businesses while helping to strengthen bilateral relationship between Cambodia and Canada.

The Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto delegation lunch reception was held at was very well attended with over 20 VIP guests from various Cambodian government bodies and businesses. Kampong Chhnang Tour: Hosted by the Provincial Governor Sun Sovannarith – Nov 13, 2022

Mr. Lenny Wong, Presidentof the Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto and his delegation were cordially invited by the Provincial Governor of Kampong Chhnang to conduct a field study to explore Agricultural and Fishery opportunities in Kampong Chhnang. The Provincial Governor Sun Sovannarith generously took time out of his busy schedule to accompany the delegation on a discovery tour along the river and the floating villages. The boat tour stopped at one of the floating villages where a group of fishermen showcased their fishing expertise and knowledge.

Mr. Lenny Wong, Presidentof the representative of the Liaison Office of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce in Toronto and his delegation had a courtesy meeting with Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Cambodian Army at Hotel Hyatt.

The meeting was tremendously insightful and engaging. During the meeting, Mr. Lenny Wong presented the association’s recent success since incorporation, with networking events that lead to a group of delegates to Cambodia for business exploration. The Lieutenant General Hun Manet congratulated Mr. Lenny Wong on his success and reiterated five key areas he is committed to providing those businesses interested investing in Cambodia.

1. Infrastructure – a need to bring the ‘seaport to Phnom Penh’ 2. Electricity – reduce electricity useage

3. International Export Standards – explore international export certifications 4. Acknowledge shortcomings by providing tax incentives for businesses

5. Ministry of Labour – a push for labour laws that protect both jobs and employers

Mr. Lenny Wong appreciated the support being presented and emphasized his commitment and continuation to promote Canadian business membership and establish business network between the two countries.

Canadia Bank Tour and Meeting – Nov 14, 2022

Canadia Bank was established in 1991 as Canadia Gold & Trust Ltd, a join-venture company between Cambodian Canadians and the National Bank of Cambodia. Ithas since grown its operations to becoming the largest local bank in Cambodia.

The delegates were provided an opportunity to tour the Canadia Bank PLC’s head office and network with the founder, Dr. Pung Kheav Se, Mr. Thierry Tea, OCIC Vice President Business Development, Mr. Ang Enghuy, Chief Financial Officer, Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation, Mr. Charles Vann, Executive Vice President, Ms. Cheak Sokheak, Chief Executive Officer of The Olympia Mall along with many other executives.

Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia Meeting – Nov 15, 2022

YEAC consists of many young Cambodian entrepreneurs who are SMEs, a great opportunity to collaborate and share information about Cambodian market trends, and potential sectors.

Mr. Lenny Wong, Presidentof the Cambodia Trade & Commerce of Toronto (CTCT) discussed investment opportunities and how the association can assist the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia (YEA) with some projects that maybe of interest to each member.

Mr. Seang Sopagna, President of YEAC and Mr. Lenny Wong, discussed building partnerships, and joint venture opportunities. Mr. Lenny Wong indicated an interest in helping YEAC with solid businesses who want to expand but need some capital or seeking joint venture opportunities.

The two Presidents confirmed and established a point of contact for ongoing communication, project related, and future networking opportunities and project discussions.
