TORONTO, ON (October 18, 2023) – Today, Mon Sheong Foundation announced that Cathay Ball 2023 will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023. All proceeds raised from the evening will go towards “Because We Care” capital campaign, supporting the building of two new Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centres, in Markham and Stouffville.
This year’s Cathay Ball promises guests a glamorous and entertaining evening, under the theme of “Illuminating Future” which conjures the idea of a tomorrow aglow with success. The dazzling peacock, unfurling its bright fluorescent feathers, represents Mon Sheong’s commitment to evolve in its 60-year journey in line with the needs of the diverse community. It continuously transforms and, through various programs and services, radiates a remarkable and unique brilliance, benefiting the community.
Board Members Ying Duong and Joseph Tsang serve as Co-chairs for this year’s gala. The Co-chairs work together with the organizing committee to create exciting programs and segments of this gala.
Joseph Tsang mentioned the tremendous developments of the Foundation, “Mon Sheong Foundation has never stopped to spread love and care for those in need. Today, we are proud to see that Mon Sheong has achieved impressive growth with the great support from the society. Currently, there is a wait list of 8,000 people for the four long-term care centers of Mon Sheong Foundation and this clearly demonstrates the strong demand for nursing care in the community. In this September, we came together at Apple Creek Boulevard to celebrate the groundbreaking of our new long-term care home in our Markham Senior Care Campus, which will provide 320 new care beds. And we are going to have the groundbreaking ceremony of our second Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville this coming soon, which will provide 224 new care beds. Both centres are expected to be completed in three years, 2026. We believe the community is very excited about the completion of these 2 new long-term care centres, providing additional 544 new care beds and creating 700 job opportunities for our community. These projects entail substantial costs and greatly rely on the continuous support and participation of the community. The Foundation calls upon the generosity of the community at large, hoping that everyone can come together to contribute to the well-being of the elderly in the community.”
Co-Chair Ying Duong shared, “Mon Sheong will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary next year, a series of programs and activities will be organized to connect with the community, and to further strengthen the spirit of ‘caring for the elderly and nurturing the young’. Cathay Ball 2023 is a prelude to this milestone. Featuring wonderful performances, the splendid night illuminates the bright future of Mon Sheong Foundation!”
“Cathay Ball always features high quality and wonderful performances”, Co-Chair Ying Duong has introduced some of the featured performers this year, “We proudly invited 24 young friends from Etobicoke School of the Arts to showcase their singing and dancing talent in oldies and contemporary pieces. To echo this year’s visual theme of unfurling radiant feathers, 6 artists from Little Pear Garden will perform a gorgeous peacock dance. One of the Toronto’s top bands, Michael Vieira Band will perform live music.” Other engaging elements like photo booth and raffle draw will be arranged for the night. A candy artist will create Traditional Chinese sugar paintings for donors who make donations at the night.
Silent Auction is the most popular activity at Cathay Ball. This year, over 100 items, including stunning jewellery to fine wine to culinary experiences will be in the Auction. There will also be a Special Draw with the grand prize of a pair of Air Canada economy tickets to anywhere in the world where Air Canada operates. Only 300 Special Draw tickets are available.
